I’m starting to look for an older motor in good condition for my 20’ dual console wellcraft. I’ve got a 225 rude on it now so i’d like to keep the controls cables etc… Any opinions on the best motors from mid to late 90’s evinrude/johnson? Open to other motors, but seem to omc seems to be in my price range. Thanks.
Iam repowering in the next few weeks…new motors ordered and awaiting shipment. Curently have 225 Optimaxes…starboard motor , which is standard rotation with 25 inch shaft runs and looks great…2002 with new lower unit four trips ago. Motor has high hours, but has always been dealer maintained and I have always used optimax oil. Port motor is 25 inch shaft counter-rotating (also 2002) that quit last trip and has not been in for diagnostics yet. Make me an offer…one to run and one for parts or, I’ll split them. Iam keeping the props! Will be coming off the boat in around three weeks. If interested e-mail: reelmaloy@gmail.com and we can talk. Incidently, I am sold on Optimaxes and am sticking with them the only reason Iam repowering at this time is Mercury’s five year warranty deal and the fact I use my boat a lot and rack up the hours.
