Fuel Sender Replacement Help

I recently posed a question about replacing my fuel sending unit. I was unable to find an exact replacement with the remote gauge like I wanted so I went with a WEMA unit. Since I’m replacing the old one, I figured it would be a good time to clean out the fuel tank as well as possible. With that in mind, I have a few questions:

  1. The new unit came with some type of cork gasket. Should I use any
type of sealant or just the gasket?

  2. What is the best way to drain and clean out the tank, a hand
pump siphon or should I disconnect the fuel line where it comes out
and use the bulb to suck out the gas?

  3. My old unit had 2 wires going to the remote gauge on top of the
sending unit and 1 ground wire (see photo, can’t tell where it
comes from). The new unit has 2 wires???

  1. I generally use the heat shrink (self-sealing) electrical
connectors but, I’m reluctant to introduce electricity, sparks,
heat, etc. in the confined space of my console. Any other way to
    seal the connections?

Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks!

  1. Gasket only
  2. Disconnect hose and suck gas out with a fuel pump.
  3. Can’t see picture. Follow instructions on sender. One wire to ground. The other to S on gauge.
We use heat shrink. H eat gun works fine
