Fuel Water Seperator Filters

Last weekend the water seperator light came on on my fuel management guage.Got manual out and it said to dump it out,so my question is do I replace my filters? Do I fill filters with fuel before Iput them back on.Havent had boat but a week so I am still learning it.Just serviced motors today and that is the last thing on my list to do.Getting ready for the coming weekend and dont want any problems. Thanks for any advice guys.

I have always heard to replace filters, unless you have no other choice. Filling it up before reinstalling will help tremendously when it comes to pumping the bulb next time. Unless you need a good forearm workout, then just leave it empty. Please get a few more opinions first because I am by no means an expert!

Price out the filters and if they are within reason, swap them out. I always do more then I probably need to in situation like this. I was told to fill it with fuel when you install it. Just my 2-cents, hope it helps…

Replace it with a Racor that has the clear bowl on the bottom. Then you can just empty the water. It’s about $60. I recommend Charleston Marine on Dorchester Road (near Micheaux Parkway).

if you have water in the filter on the motor, then the boat filter would have to be saturated.
I would replace the filters

I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com

Replace them & keep spares on the boat.
