Fuel/Water seperator--Fuel filter

How often should you change them out? I use the boat about 100 hours a year…oh, and it is a '94 Merc 150. Thanks

Some manf. say every 50 hours. For all the good mine did I wonder why I have one.

Roger that. Yeah, it is definately time to swap it out. I have noticed some hesitation when accelerating out of the hole and it made me realize that I haven’t changed that out it a very long time. Thanks

Seems like the boat motor mechanics like to cut them open to see how they look inside when they change them out. I think I will do that to mine the next time I change it out. I’m interested in seeing what kind of particles and gunk it catches.

Yeah that’s what I did with oil filters when I was an aircraft mechanic…it tells you a story about how the engine is doing internally. I think I’ll do that as well to the fuel/water sep…I have no idea when the last time this gas tank was cleaned and how much gunk is gummed up in it

I would suggest keeping a spare filter on the boat. It could save the day if the old one gets junked up. Been there, done that.

I change mine out every time I service my motor, which is roughly every 100 to 115 hours. I have almost 1500 hours on my boat in less than 4 years though.

In Pursuit…good advice. I’ll get an extra one and put in onboard with the rest of the “extra parts” Ok, so it sounds like about 100 hours is good…thank you gents for the help

I’d do it every 100 hours or year. The all metal ones can and sometimes will rust out on the bottom in 3 years.
