Left the dock at 5 am for a full day of trolling and an overnight Swordfishing trip. Started at the Gtown Hole around 7:30. By 11:30 we had 17 Blackfins, 3 Wahoo, and a Dolphin. Since the fish box was almost full we went out to the deep to take a look, thinking about making a deep drop. Never found anything worth dropping on and got no bites. We picked up and ran to the 226 Hole. Along the way, we saw and Aircraft Carrier launching and landing jets. It was pretty cool. Set out at sunset just to the south of the fleet. I guess we should have been amongst them since we only caught one shark. No Swords, but we will get them next time. Stopped for 30 minutes on the way home to fish at the SW Banks. Got one Wahoo cut off. Started out strong, but didnt finish that way. Had a good time.

Good luck to the Summer Girl. As I am writing this they are trying for a Super Slam off of Charleston. JWF

Next time you fish, try a few wire rigs for the wahoo to avoid all of the cutoffs. What did you catch the blackfins on? I hear those blue and white Zuker’s feathers work great in front of a ballyhoo for the tuna if they tend to be leader shy - you can get them at Bass Pro Shops I think.

nice day… 17 Blackfins is impressive…

PS, I heard from at least 5 different folks about Navy operations out there…

This is not a chawade…

We need total concentwation…

yeah, we heard the booms also.

The Navy exercise was called some type of “coalition exercise” as we heard them on channel 16 launching some water crafts on Saturday. The exercise extended all the way to R-8 off Savannah/Hilton Head as we had a destroyer/high tech ship working around us and a small retreval ship along with the multitute of aircraft overhead. I think we must have been targeted by one jet as it came down on us out of no-where while the crew thought the top of the boat was coming off.

I’ve certainly seen aircraft carriers off Hilton Head before and they probably come out of Jacksonville which is only 140 nm from r-8 approximately; 4 1/2 hours of cruising at 30 knts for a carrier.

The only difference between men and boys is the cost of their toys.

nice work on the meat.

With MCAS Beaufort just to the south of us and Shaw AFB just to the north why couldn’t they be launching air ops against F-16’s and F-18’s? Also I work at Charleston AFB and we had F-18’s here all weekend as well as those little orange and white Navy Carrier landing trainers. Now I know why they were here 2+2=…
