Full Pull 9/26

We started out making a few deep drops in the morning and then picked up and ran inshore. Set out the trolling spread in 400 ft. Not a lot going on out there. Fished into about 200 ft and picked at the fish there. Finally found some fish on the 960 line right as it was time to go home. Figures. Ended up with 9 Snowies, 1 Golden Tile, 3 Barrell Fish, 7 Spiny Cheeked Scorpions, 6 Blackfins, 6 or 7 Dolphins, 1 Wahoo, 1 King, a Remora (never caught one trolling), and a White Marlin. Saw a free jumping Blue Marlin and no Sails.

It was good to be back out there. Ready to go again.

how big was wahoo

As always thank a bunch for letting us tag along. It was very cool to watch you and Ed work the white to the boat. You can tell that it was not your first rodeo. Big John is a super nice guy fun to finally get to fish with him too. We had a blast! Lets go again real soon!!

Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!

35 pounds or so. I was able to show them the proper wahoo gaffing technique. I hope everyone paid attention to how a pro does it.

Nice work. Sorry I couldn’t make it. Those are some nice snowies!

Skinnee,

I wish that you would have been with us. We could have caught another Snowy that way. If I remember correctly that is the 3rd time you have turned down an invitation to fish with us. What has you so busy lately? Maybe you are just scared to fish with Scott. He tells me that his skills are superior to yours. You should come and defend yourself sometime.

Great job Ed, getting out again next week. Got a charter on Saturday, but might be too rough to go.

I think i saw a homo holding a fish!

Very cool catch!

What did the barrel’s hit on?

Did you eat the scorpions? Curious how they taste. They weren’t blackbelly rosefish were they?

That third picture looks kinda like a blueline tile, did you get any of those?

awesome day…is that 2 big snowies on the same rig? i have never fished for them but that looks awesome

There is actually 3 on that rig! The other one is on the bottom hook and you can not see him in the picture. They were bogging down the electric reel and even shutting it off.

There is a couple tricks to those rigs, call Jeremy at Atlantic Game and Tackle in MP. He sells them and will show you some tips on getting everything right.

If you are in Georgetown call JW or Captain Ed. Surely they will run a few charters and show you how this is done.

Word on the creek is Ben Polk on the Jabez is the Charleston guru on deep dropping. He came to the dock on Sunday while we were cleaning fish. Seemed like a super nice guy!

Sublime,

The Barrel fish bit squid. We have only caught two others before this trip. So I thought that it was unusual to catch 3 in one spot.

If you look on the fish ID page on CF.com they have both the Spiny Cheeked Scorpion and the Black Bellied Rosefish side by side. The fish that we have been catching are the one on top. It appears to me that they are calling it a Scorpion Fish. They do have spines on there cheeks and in their eye sockets. We have tried fishing for snowies with them and they will not eat them. I may be wrong, but either way we have eaten them several times and they are delicious.

The third picture is just a bad picture of a Barrel Fish. We do catch Blue Line Tiles sometimes, but usually once we have drifted off of the mark. The Golden Tiles that we catch seems to be deeper than the Blue Lines and are usually closer to the mark we are trying to fish.

“Back home we got a taxidermy man. He gonna have a heart attack when he see what I brung him”

just wondering are the scorpion fish edible?

I stopped by Atlantic Game and Tackle at lunch today and Jeremy showed me one of those triple dropper rigs. That’s a haus!! Gotta have some man-sized equipment to be pulling those things up off the bottom. Glad y’all got into em. Too bad the water’s gonna be rough this weekend. Can’t wait to get back out there.

(**(). I didn't know we were keeping count. I will make it next time. Scott's talking skills are definitely more superior to mine.

scorpion fish are very good to eat. The best, in my opinion, is barrel fish. They are very special on the plate.
