We put in today at the muddy ramp on the back side of Sullivans. Had a fun day. Note, when folks say that this is a tricky ramp, they aren’t kidding.
Anyhow, we tossed mud minnows, trout tricks, and curly tail grubs. Lost a rather beefy overslot red when he took off straight into the grass. I couldn’t do anything to stop him, and he went way up into it. Couldn’t do anything with him. Got a good look at him in the shallows but he was out of reach of our net. Maybe 30"? Definitely overslot.
Caught around 15 trout between three of us, 8 of which were keepers. Two bluefish (one on a trout trick, which was a first for me). Boated 4 redfish, three were rats. One of them was 17", and would have gone in the cooler, if my son had not misunderstood me. I handed it to him for a pic, and then I opened the cooler and said “OK throw him in!”, so, overboard the fish went. I could taste him as I saw him swim off, it’s been so long since I’ve had some good sauteed redfish lol.
He’s only 4, and I could tell he felt bad for the mistake, so I just gave him a friendly laugh and said we’ll get him later.
So far this brings my trout trick tally over the past year to---- reds (slot and way overslot), trout, flounder, lizard fish, bluefish, lady fish, striper (Bushy Park, 16", released), bull whiting.
