Fun Day for Rookie - 6/9

Having grown up in SW Florida I had bottom fished several times but would consider myself an inshore fisherman. We took the yearly trip to reef fish to the Keys with an occasional free line running but never trolled.

I’ve been in Charleston since 2003 and have done plenty of inshore but was appreciative for the invite and opportunity to join a team for my first ever trolling experience. Enjoyed the team work aspect of it all. Having fished and hunted for a long time, I decided a few years ago to start documenting what I saw and felt out there through photography.

We caught a handfull of dolphin and the day maker was this wahoo that burned the reel right before we packed up. Sporty day out there - the Edisto bouy lies (1.3 @9 seconds - yeah right!)

nice pics.

Few more useful details…Lines in at 180ft and trolled out to 350+ with scattered weeds. Heard reports of no weedlines and no fish being caught out to 1600+ so we headed back to the ledge. All fish caught in 77.5-77.9 water and 200ft of water. The wahoo was DIRECTLY on top of a 10 ft ledge on the bottom with a stack of bait on it like I’ve rarely seen on the sounder. Had to be 30 ft tall.

Super photos. Is anything prettier than a lit up wahoo?

Should trade spots on trips for photo-documenting the trip!

You know, I enjoy seeing the fishing pictures posted on this site, but you just brought a whole new love to this sport by what you just captured with the camera.
Great job and thanks for posting

what camera did you use for the photos?

Thanks again folks! I’ve done a fair amount of wildlife but finally getting to shoot what was a first love as a kid growing up is a treat!

Photo documentation in exchange for a ride as a possibility in the future.

Photographing the fish and action as much fun as reeling them in.
What’s your camera setup?
