Fun day on the Wando

I spent the day with friends around Nowell Creek. Only caught two smallish trout but it was a beautiful day and I will always appreciate a day on the water over being stuck inside.
Question! I’ve noticed lately we will find some fish and they will go crazy for one or several of the artificials we will be using (Trout Trick, Scented Paddlerz, and Gulp Alive stinky stuff, and most of the time using Trout Eye jigheads) but we just can’t hook them. Are we perhaps just on some smaller fish and using too large hooks? I doubt it, but I’m curious. I have a feeling it’s just a skill thing and we aren’t practiced enough to feel and set hook at the right moment. That makes more sense.
This year is the first year my friend and myself have spent a lot of time going out so I’m pretty sure I already know the answer to this, but I wanted to see what you peeps had to say. Thanks.

With these continued warm weahter patterns, and water temps back in the mid 60’s, I’d wouldnt be suprised if it was just pinfish (bait stealers) pecking at your baits! Keep fishing though, have caught some real nice fish in the mist of the bait stealers. That’s just my thoughts on it.
