Fun day on the water with some firsts 6/17

We planned for a day of bottom fishing but brought some dive gear since, why not. The weather looked awesome so we stocked up the boat and left the dock at the crack of 8am. On the way out we ran into a huge pod of spotted and bottlenose dolphin that really wanted to play so we hung out with them for a little under an hour. They really wanted to show off to the boat and had some babies with them which was awesome. I don’t yet have any of those photos but I’m sure they are awesome.
When we got to the spot we were greeted by huge schools of topwater spadefish and proceeded to put the girls on their first freedive spearfishing experience and they both crushed it. We were covered up for hours and I even managed to free-gaff one from the boat.
We bottom fished for a little while but all we really wanted was trigger fish and they weren’t biting so it was time to dive for more groceries. This produced some nice lobster and decent gags although the biggest lost some good meat to the spear. We ran in early because we didn’t bring enough ice so back to the hill of flat seas at 38kts with Kari logging some wheel time.

Awesome day on the water with Rob, Kari, and Christin. We will be doing it again soon and bringing proper freediving gear this time.

Their first speared fish! They got into the swing of it and now are hooked.

Screencap from some GoPro footage.

More pics. Fun Day on the water for sure.
