Went out looking for Albies on Friday…the wind kept em down for the first part of the day. Waited out the wind and messed around with C-Bass…Caught too many to count…tons on the fly and anything you could possibly drop down…caught them on jig heads tipped with oak leaves…and even bare jig heads…the screen was lit up on some drifts for 15-20 minutes…we must have been lucky to find these endangered species!!
The wind dropped and the Albies came up…we hooked about a dozen on light spinning gear…lots of fun…even got checked by DNR in 50’ while fighting fish. They never checked fishing license or cooler…just my drivers license.
Ran home at 2pm on a flat calm ocean
What lure did you hook the albies on and what size were they?
I heard SC DNR got a federal grant to check fishing boats for catch in in state and federal waters. I find it interesting that they’ve checked the DL only and didn’t even picked at f.boxes.

Albies were approx. 5 to 7 lbs…a blast on the light Trout/Redfish rods & even better when you get em on the fly.
Small silver spoons or silver jigs seem to work pretty well…the smallest you can cast. With the small Clark Spoons I attach a barrel swivel & egg sinker above it so it will cast. The small 1/2 ounce to 1 ounce jigs cast well on their own.
Do you eat the albies or throw them back?
