decided id get up early and try fishing for a bit before work…good idea. had a TT on a crappie rod and a mullet colored topwater on a 7 foot med action rod. slow start since the water was kinda muddy but once it cleared up a bit trout started hitting. the TT claimed 2 13" and 2 16" trout and missed several…much more fun on light tackle! 1 of the trout had a big redfish following it trying to steal the TT while i ws reeling it in too. also had what felt like a redfish hit it and slice me on the dreaded oyster beds. saw stuff chasin mullet so out went the topwater for my 1st saltwater topwater catch. had a 13-14" trout launch itself out of the water lure in mouth but nothing to show for it when i set. saw some larger splashes and it took several tosses but watched a nice redfish roll over it. took a while to bring it close but kept it away from the oysters and yes landed my 1st topwater redfish that measured out at 30".
Man, what a great way to get the day started!

nice report, thankya
You took the picture of that red laying on concrete. You gotta walk to spot to produce fish like that? I am envious.

goob: visit the navy recruiter in north charleston and tell em ya wanna sign up for the nuke program…after boot camp and getting shipped back to charleston (rigorous academic training included) you too could fish there!
i will be honest though thats been my best day in quite a while and reports from people in boats are consistently much better than mine whether i post or not. 2nd shift again tomorrow i may have to try again.
Nice fish Dave, still yet to grab my first on topwater, was that as the sun was rising ??
Bragging may not bring happiness,
but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.

Gongrats on the top water catch!!! Nice Redfish!
Great report, sounds like a nice morning. Good call to squeeze in some fishing!
Gotta love that topwater action!
BTW, is that a Ba-Donka-Donk that he hit?
tried again this morning and yesterday was definately the day…only a 12" trout and ladyfish this morning. downlow yup thats a 3.5" badonkadonk he hit and the only things busting the surface today were all gar.
I worked and occasionally fished the NWS for about 10 years. There are a lot of fish around the piers. The pier with the big barge is locally famous for a big redfish school almost all year. It was a great spot to watch the fish hunt the banks for bait. Older guys who worked there 20+ years ago said that they use to slay the stripers in the lights at night when fishing was more openly permitted.
