Hit it early out of Bushy and found plenty of bait. They seldom surface, but the water is clear and you can eyeball them in shallow water.
Fished the banks along the Cooper, slowly working along, and had 3 reds and a nice 19" trout in short order. Tossed around mouth of Flagg creek with little success. I’ve been trying to catch fish I find suspended on my fish finder. Free spooled a mullet and WHAM! After a long fight drug about a 20# catfish into the boat! THAT was a fun fight!
Fished Yellowhouse, again working banks. Had a fish here and there and it died when we hit dead low slack tide. Chased the suspended again to no avail.
Water started moving again and found trout after trout at a creek mouth point. Every cast with a new penny Gulp shrimp with glow tail caught a fish. All smallish, and when the bite died I didn’t chase them.
Jumped to Clouter and worked banks again. Slow going. Knew some oyster shells and when we hit them we pulled some fish out.
Started heading back to Bushy around 2 and fished the Cooper shoreline again. Hit flounder pay dirt with my personal best 19", a 16" and another small flatty. Hit one last spot before loading the boat and got a nice 25" red to cap the day.
Mix of artie shrimp, gulp shad, MM and mullet. If you see bait, cast at it. Seemed the fish were waiting there every time!
Great company.
Doug’s first artie trout.
Doug’s second ever slam
fat kitty!
My 19"
I actually wound up with a triple slam. Gonna give it a go again tomorrow!
Good times for sure there Vin. My second slam and as Vin said, 1st trout on an artie. What he didn’t say was they he caught 7 in a row, BAM, BAM, BAM, as I was desperately trying to tie my Z-man shrimp on (that flouro is hard to see). I think I hit the end of the school by the time I threw my line in. All in all, a really nice day and a few fish home for supper which makes Mama happy.
Got2Go, I really like the Fish Grippers. I mainly use them when fishing on my yak and the only reason I had them yesterday was that I grabbed my yak bag. They work really well on reds and trout, a little tough on flounder. Not really a substitute for a net but good to have in your bag.
Peapod, don’t go reading anything in to yesterday, Vin and I are just friends and it was just fishing. You don’t need to say anything to Bonzo though.
Keep that crap up and you won’t get much more sympathy from us!
Only Bonzo will get our sympathy
hey, even Bonzo is putting fish in the boat right now…must be that Mayan Calendar end-of-times crap or something…
but yes D, great to see you getting on the fish…I missed a 4 fish slam by 1 flattie yesterday (see my report, shameless plug )…thanks for the report!
