Funky Rack

I have a new spot I have been hunting a little bit, but I got cut off by water. So Tuesday afternoon, I set up another place to shoot with corn on the other side of the field where I’m not cut off. Got in the tree with my climber at 3:30 today. About 5pm, I see a fat doe out in the field. I watched her for a good while, and i could hear a deer walking real close to me in the woods. I just listened while I watched the doe. Well, over where the doe was at, about 20 dang deer piled out of the bushes. I forgot about the deer close to me. It was getting to late to tell if the deer had any good head gear, so I took a quick look at the corn pile in the woods. When I did, he picked up his head. At 60 yards through the 10 power binos, he looked much bigger. So, I turned the rifle, turned on the red dot, found some meat, and let it eat. He went maybe 15 yards. Not the biggest buck, but a nice deer anyway.

That’s a pretty cool looking rack. Congrats on another nice one. You’re having a great season!

That one is funky. Probably needed culling out of the blood line anyway.

Well, I still have 4 does tags that I have not used at all. At least 20 deer piled out of the bushes into the field yesterday. Some of them where some really, really fat does. I’m contemplating shooting a couple of them. Either way, I’m gonna hunt as much as possible until Thanks Giving. After that, I will pretty much be done messing with them. I’ll run out of corn at that point, and I’m not buying anymore this season.

Crazy as it sounds, that’s the kind of racks I like to keep. And like Cracker said, probably needed culling if your trying for some QDM.

You ought to be eating fried back-strap every morning for breakfast by now!

Enjoy your posts.

The story gets worse. The buck that I trailed for 4.5 hrs after shooting and could not find last year went right when I htought it went left. I came back next day looking for him and saw buzzards. went to them and saw an armadillo and assumed that is what they were after. The rarCK and skull that I found the other day was only 10’ from that dam armadillo. If armadillo was noir there I would have found my buck.

Hunting, fishing, and poker are my sports. Work when necessary.

way to go man. you are flat knocking them down this year!

If you hunt long enough, eventually, you will lose a deer. At least you got closure on this one. Most of them are never seen again.

Shoulda let him walk. Looks like he has some elk genetics. He woulda been HUGE next year.

Interesting rack

First, Most, Biggest

I’m not sure about that. I have had the trail cam up since May in this place. He is only the second largest rack to show in that whole time. I have several large bodied deer there that just don’t have much antlers. I also have pics of several (several meaning at least 10 different bucks) with really goofy racks. For example, I have a 6 point with no brow times and a basket rack, but he is at least 170lbs with a big roman nose. 5 miles down the road at my place, I have done just that by letting several bucks just walk on by, but it is obvious they have real potential. I am so glad I get to hunt this spot down the road from me, but it looks like I’m in the cull capital of the county sometimes on the trail cam. Since I have fed them at least $1000 worth of corn from May until present, it was time for at least one of them to pay up. He was the first one to pay up. At least one more will pay up too.
