Wednesday we headed out of the stono and were suprised and happy to have the trough of the SW winds rather than the predicted NW at 15. Fished 75-80 ft all day. A few other boats fishing withnin a few miles of us. The sounder was lit up with alot of fish everywhere we anchored. Tried many different jigs, live bait, cigars and squid and no matter what went down, a seabasss came up. Ive never seen that many c bass caught in my life. We kept our limit of big fat c bass for the four of us. Wind layed down at the end of the day and it was a nice ride in.
The plan for Thursday was to go deeper and more to the north b/c of current water temp and fish records we thought it would be productive. We really wanted some gags and scamps. Well on the way to Wapoo Cut my left spray curtain came undone and a huge hole broke in it from banging against the side of the boat. Bummed about that we headed out. That NE wind made for a terrible ride heading north out the jetties and we got pretty beat up. We fished 85-130 ft and tried many spots. Just like wednesday, we were marking alot of good stuff on the sonar. We anchored 11 different times as the drifts were just too fast with the ocean conditions that existed. We tried every jig possible, many good live baits, squid, cigars, cut fresh lil tunny etc. We didn’t get a solid grouper or snapper bite all day. We caught the biggest c bass i ve ever seen, a few red porgys, some AJs and some little tunny but none of what were after. It was pretty disappointing but that fishing for you. We had an engine alarm come on 1/2 mile from the jetties so we limped to Wappoo Cut on one engine and froze our butts off as well. Took the boat out today and engine alarm still happening so not sure what the problem is, but not too happy about it.
Im no expert, and have no family history of fishing here like many people on this site, but is this just a total c bass invasion right now or what the heck i am doing wrong. These last 2 trips were first 2 bottom trips in 2 years with
