G & M Vs. Super Bait Tank II or others??

Does any one know the differences between these bait tanks? looking for a tank in the 40 to 50 gal range.

Thanks

Curios myself, as I am shopping for a new tank. The whaler doesn’t have a live well, so I need a good removable tank. With that said, anyone know of a good deal anywhere?

G&M all the way guys. Nothing wrong with a vest tank but if i want customer service, a good tank, and want it NOW. I am calling GM. I am also now running a GM as well.

I dont know if the new SB’s have dancos or not but the GM come standard with them. My partner ordered a SB way before GM came out. He got the same 6-8wk speech everyone gets. So he put his name on the list. You know to this day he still hasnt gotten a call back??? And thats been almost a yr…and he has called back other times and keeps getting the 4 more weeks answer. Needless to say he has a GM and got it within a week of calling Greg and Mark.

Greg and Mark are great stand up guys and will stand behind their work 100%. If you dont like something let them know.

Give these guys a call and just chat with them. They will do you right. 864 630 9075

Do the GM tanks come with a light standard? I see on their FB page a lot of pics with lights, but no mention if it is standard or not.

If it comes standard with the light, has a danco venturi, and can be ready in a week, that is strong.

Sounds like the G&M are good tanks. I have two Ron Vest super bait tanks and am happy with them. I did have to add the Danco to the one I bought last summer. I had the same one year experience to get a tank and probably would have gone with a G&M if I had known about them at the time. All that said there are normally some used super tanks out there for sale. The Striperboard regularly has someone posting one for sale. I bought an older fifty gallon several years ago and added the Danco.

There was a forty gallon Vest on the Striperboard posted January 18. Just checked and there is not a sold post but they normally go fast.

I would definitely recommend the G&M tanks. They are top notch and at this point I see them as a more reliable option over the Super Bait Tanks. They are both great tanks, but the lead time and customer service is far better with G&M.

If you’ve been thinking about buying a tank, but aren’t sure if these tanks are worth the extra money…take my word…spend the extra money and get a good one. (and large enough) I tried to save a few dollars building tanks and buying cheaper tanks on the market only to end up buying a G&M in the long run. I could have bought 2 or 3 of these now if I would have spent more the first time. But we live and learn!

Thanks for the responses. I have a twenty gallon Creek Bank now, but now have a little more room and was thinking of going to a larger tank. I will check out the G&M for sure…

I have room for a 20 only, so let me know if you decide to sell that CB.

Also, anyone know anything about the EZ Flow tanks made in NC? I have a line on a used 20 gallon, not a screaming deal, but still about $200 less than buying a new GM or SBTII.

while yall are on this subject ive always wondered if anybody knows where i can buy a blank tank ? from what i can tell the gm and sb and a couple others tanks are all the same molds only thing different is the plumbing-- i would like to plumb myself because ive got some ideas that i think would make it a better all around bait holding tank

I am sure either of the companies mentioned would sell you a tank without plumbing. I bought the vest last year and had him leave out the aerator. I them put a Danco in. They are really the same tank. Ron is just a one man shop and due to his health he has had trouble keeping up. You should be happy with either one.

My SBT II was the old spray bar style. I removed it and put in my own venture. That might be an option. I would think that if you called G&M and wanted a blank they would cut the price.

Chip,
Didn’t you have problems with a Danco pump killing all of your bait? I used a keep alive and it works fine. I know they say the bubbles through the pump wear it out faster, but the pumps are cheap and seem to wear out on me all the time anyway. I always keep one or two backup pumps, learned that one the hard way.

Yea i did once. After talking to the guy who makes them at a MSC meeting, i learned i had a very old danco. Like prob one of the first ones. The new ones have a different internal design. I havent had a bit of trouble out of the new ones. Its what i am running now.

Hey SteelyTom, hows that weather up there dude? Yeah the pumps that draw in air at the pump will definitely wear out faster than the pumps that aerate by pulling air into the venturi. Another problem with that old Vest set up was the fact that the pump was on the bottom of the tank where its more likely to suck in debris. I use carbon and zeolite in my filter box and occasionally it gets loose in the bottom and a piece would get sucked in the pump and stop it from working until I removed it. Adding the Danco venturi kit to my old Vest SBT2 1) raised my pump off the bottom 2) allows me to use other brands and styles of pumps, (not just the Rule pump with the caged bottom and inlet hose fitting) 3) get longer life out of the pump, and 4) add compressed pure O2 through the Venturi.
In my opinion, the more expensive Rule pump is the best performer but in a pinch you may have to use what you can find or afford at the moment.

The G&M tanks look great and appear to function just as well as the Vest tanks. The filter box on the G&M tank has less surface area to work with but unless you catch your own slimey gizzards it probably won’t make a difference to you. I guess we will have to wait and see if they are as durable, resist UV degradation, and maintain their insulating properties as well as the SBT2.
