G3 Jon Boats

Anyone have any experience, good or bad with these? Looking at the LW1648 in particular.

Thanks in advance.

I’ve got a neighbor with one that I’ve been on a few times. Dang nice and tough aluminum jon boat. His is a little larger, almost certain it is an 18’, but they build a good boat.

NN;
I had a G3 1870 front stand up CC with a 90hp jet yamie, best boat i ever owned . Would run so skinny you’d think you were on dry land , then i got STUPID</font id=“red”></font id=“size4”> and went to a 18’ CC key largo , its a good ride but my fishing areas dropped by 30% , man i wish i’d kept it!:face_with_head_bandage::face_with_head_bandage:

Thanks CL and GW. I have a new 20hp Yamaha 4 stroke that is mounted on a 1440 fiberglass boat that is way to tippy to stand in.

Want to have something stable for bow fishing/bass fishing Clarks Hill and some low country gigging. Also hoping the 20 will push that 1648 well enough?? Will usually only have 2 folks onboard.

Bought 3 of these Rough Country lights for it. Math shows about 5 hours out of the dedicated 12volt Deep Cycle.

BTW, these lights contain a mix of spot and 90 degree floods. 72 watts/5760 lumens each.

Any additional advice appreciated.

Got a Suzuki 25 that I’m selling if you need a little more motor

I had a G3 1448 Years ago, 25hp evinrude tiller steer. That thing was scary fast.
Very well built boats. I used mine for bass fishing, shrimping and duck hunting.
Probably one of the more solid built jon boats I ever owned.
I sold it and now have a 1654MV Polar Craft. It’s a good boat but not near as solid as the G3. Two years ago I was having motor issues and had to run it with a 20hp motor. You will be borderline ok with the 20. My boat performed just fine with only me, did OK with myself and another, but was a dog when we added a third person. 5 more hp is a big difference on this size boat, you’ll be happier with a 25 or 30 on it.

I’ve got an 1860CC with a 90 Yamaha 2-stroke on it. Bought it new in '08. The boat has been flawless, as has the motor. I’ve gone places and done things that I should not have come back from. The boat is a true testament to Yamaha quality. I’m not up to date on the new models out there, so I can’t speak for them. But I know the older ones are built like big comfortable tanks.

A friend has a 16xx G3 aluminum bass boat. GREAT BOAT, until it sank at the dock 3 months old…they replaced the boat no questions asked…he was extremely happy with the way they treated him after the incident, and raves about the boat to this day.

I have an old high school friend that is a G3 dealer up here in Columbia. He thinks highly of them and has said good things about them.

Great boats, but the 20 ain’t gonna push it. A 40 would be ideal for that boat.

LOOK AT THE ALWELD BRAND
G3 BUILDS A NICE BOAT, BUT ALWELD AND SEAARK ARE FAR STRONGER BUILT BOATS
20 HP WILL PUSH A 1648, BUT IT WONT BE FAST, AND YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE SURE AND GET THE CORRECT PROP

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING

@chrisv?! I figured you would push the G3 hard being owned by Yamaha! J/K:smiley:

We ship for G3 and although I haven’t been in the water on one, I can say they are built well.
