Do you have to upload charts or is the basic display good enough. Do you have a T-top if so does the internal antenna work.
get the 540s you may need that sonar sometime. I got it and its sweet. You do not need to upload chats. Internal antenna works good too. What are you using this for? getting around the harbor? Mine picks up all the day markers, reefs, shows the current (with velocity), tells tides, gives you all the info for fuel, repair, places etc… if you wanna check it out give me a shout.

More for the waypoints getting me out to spots and back. When you put in a waypoint does it lay a track on the screen to follow.

Yes, you have to use the functions, like go to waypoints, then select, then select “navigate to” and you will get a heading line.
It will show you how far off the heading you are if you stray.
It also leaves a “track” to help you get back to where you came from.
I too have the 540S, Love it! but wish ihad a bigger screen, but money money money…
I added external antenna because it does not update fast enough for me. The external antenna did not help much, I believe it is the processor speed. It is slow to update especially when you are trying to dial in on bottom marks.
Fishing on the bottom is like having sex with the lights turned off. It feels good… but I wanna see it.

I have the 545S and it does a hell of a lot more than I need it to. Vey nice machine.
Do ya’ll have it flushed mounted? How is the kit?
Not flush mounted.
I’ve got the 440s flush mounted and it looks real slick to me. I don’t have any picks right now, but will get some this weekend. I’ve been extremely happy with the 440s.

I ended up ordering the 440 to put more on fishfinder (400c). I would love to see it. One question I have with the flush mount does it still pick up signal quickly or you using external antenna
I’m using internal antennae and nave no troble picking up signal… I don’t have a t-top though, so I’m sure that might make a difference.

I’ve got a 545s mounted under a fiberglass hardtop and it has no problem picking up the satellites.
Dealer just called boat should be in around two so I hope they start preparing it. Going down tomorrow to start paper work and give the boat a good looking over. Hopefully electronics will be in some time next week so I can install. The fiberglass thread is right on time. I guess I’ll give that Zip bit a try. I checked on the Garmin site last night about flush mounting 440 and having T-top. Thin canvas your good other then that they suggest external antenna. Keeping fingers crossed.

I don’t know how much I believe that. I have a 545S and it picks up very well in the garage. That is a lot more than any T-top. You will be surprised.
what kind of boat you getting? I’ll get you some pics of my flush mount 440 on friday when I’m cleaning the boat.

HH - remember, they are in the business of selling… once a had guy tell me he recommended changing the string on my bow every 4-6 weeks. I told him, I would recommend the same thing if I were selling bow strings…

No doubt about that DD. Just trying to help the man not get taken for a ride.
I hear ya… Mine picks up great under the boat shed and it is under a canopy of trees. Don’t see any reason he’d need the external. I’d definitely try it with the internal first. I think you’ll be fine.
