Garmin vs. Lowrance

Any suggestions on new 10-12" plotter/combo, for more inshore/nearshore, but occasionally running off? It appears more saltwater fishermen use Garmin, probably on account of good mapping? The upstate striper guys prefer Lowrance, maybe better images of structure? The mapping probably will mean more to me, if I had to declare. I’ve had both over the years, and would be okay with either. But I have not bought electronics in years, and they have changed a lot.

What about the “touch-screen”? Is it worth the $, or just a gimmick?

Thanks,
OM

I have always used Garmin. To me their units are user friendly and have good customer service. I think the touch screen is cool, but if you are trying to change something on the screen its hard enough to push the correct button when the boat is running. I think it would be hard to scroll or change something with a touch screen.
