Garris hours

The website says open at 6am and I believe it’s an automatic gate there. Anyone know if it opens earlier on the weekends?
Do people start lining up early to launch before the gates open?

We should lobby to get Garris open 24/7. It is OUR property and there is no reasonable reason to close it

Agreed. Might have something to do with the it being the launch for the Bull Is ferry. But, I agree, if Buck hall is 24 hrs, why not Garris?

I have only been there a handful of times at 6am. Empty lot leads me to believe that the gate is truly locked until 6am. Then again, I have seen the line out past the gate with a full lot of trailers and people parked along the road outside the gate so an early arrival is much better IMO. I have heard plenty of complaints about the wasted dredging and small loading dock. I have to believe even that small dock has relieved some of the backlog at the single chute ramp when it comes to launching at low tide.

Nothing to do with the ferry as that is a privately owned business that gets to use federal facilities.

It does not open early on the weekends and I’ve never seen a line at 6 a.m. My theory on why it isn’t 24 hours is so the Capers Island permit holders can’t occupy a lot of the space. We regularly get there at 7:30 and there’s 4 or 5 trailers there by then. Plenty o room to park. Seems like taking out in the afternoon is the real challenge.

We got to Garris yesterday about 5:45 and the gate was already open. However, the shrimp were still sleeping that early.

We didn’t get there until 6:20 yesterday…only a few boats there. Great day on the bay. Getting out at 2:00 was a challenge. It’s
awesome when there are 10 boats backed up to get out, another half dozen waiting to launch, and someone spends 10 minutes on the ramp
prepping the boat, walking it over to the dock, etc… Craziest I’ve ever seen it.
