Gas Tank Storage Question

I have the red removable gas tanks in my 14ft. Stinger w/ Yamaha 50. I know to open the vents when using boat, but should i open or close vents when its sitting in the yard. Tanks are full of ethanol free gas right now. Also, when its not being used, should i disconnect the fuel line from the motor & run all the gas out the fuel line? Thats what I’ve been doing. Thanks in advance!!

The fuel inside the tank expands when it gets hot and contracts when it gets cold. If you don’t open the vent, this could damage the tank, especially if the boat is “in the yard”, subject to the heating of the daytime and sun and cooling at night.

I don’t think you need to run the fuel out of the motor unless the boat will be sitting unused for several months.

In any case, I would buy and use a fuel stabilizer treatment year round. I used Startron when I had a gasoline powered boat. Lots of folks use Stabil. You have to add it to fresh gasoline so put it in when you fill the tank.
