Have a two year old boat. Last Saturday we added a fuel additive for ethenol topped off tank and went for it. Boat ran fine all the way off shore and back. Got to North Bridge and put the hammer down. Only got 3400RPM. Checked Racor filters and found a white gritty residue in the glass. Anyone have any idea what this could be? I am replacing filters with cheap ones and cleaning vapor separator. Hopefully, this will clean the rest of the fuel and get more than 3400RPM. Will replace racor filters after that.
What is the white gritty stuff? How to prevent it? Any ideas?
its a paste related to ethanol
I think its when you mix the older mtbe fuel with the ethanol
not exactly sure how it does it, but it does make a mess
replace filters and flush fuel system
When I had my last service which was last fall, have had normal use since then but (1-2 times month through winter) but boat has been sitting the last 4 weeks due to work.
That white pasty stuff cost me a lot of money. Ended up seizing bothe high and low pressure fuel pumps, had to get the injectors cleaned, vst cleaned twice, fuel tank pumped out, and a huge headache. I hope you don’t have as big a problem as i did.
Best of luck! on the Ethanol issues. Maybe we all should ask Hoppy, what it could be. I’ve tried my best to steer folks away from using blended fuel for these very reasons! Again I’m not a “pro mechanic” but have dealt with so many E-10 problems. It doesn’t take much E-10, or very long in the tank, to cause major problems. Scott
