Found this today in the back of a creek directly of the ICW behind Sullivan’s Island. I didn’t think they went in saltwater…

This time of year the males are looking for females - they travel any way they can
Plenty of gators in salt water around here. I’ve seen them miles offshore.

They closed the beach because they saw one gator? Jeeeez, the gators live there just like the sharks. People are the intruders. I reckon this Disneyworld thing has got everybody scared now.

Big Azz rattlesnakes on them islands also!
Surf fishing for gators, I think I’ve found my calling. I know when you hook a shark in it’s side it’s a challenge to bring in. Can’t imagine what a 10 ft gator snagged would feel like. My boy has been swimming off his friends dock allot this summer. I asked the parents if they have seen any gators, they told me yes, from time to time. Should I be letting him do this ? It may sound like a puss question, but the thought of him getting eaten alive is no joke. I swam in creeks many times as a kid and know the odds are slim to none, but that doesn’t mean it can’t happen. I feel for the parents that had to watch their 2 yr old child get pulled into the water. Truly a horrific thing to see, and horrible way to go. God Bless that poor family, and God Bless that little boy.

Like most of us around here I grew up doing the same thing. Jumping off the docks, swimming in creeks, floating belly down in the feeder creeks pulling up clams and occasionally getting scared sh**less when I stirred up a flounder!
It’s not just gators though. You really never know what’s out there, and it only begins to really bother you when you start getting a few grey hairs and have little ones to think about. Check out this video of a bull shark a little farther in than you might expect it near Myrtle Beach.

That’s crazy! Always wondered about big bulls inshore and up our creeks. Never caught one.
As to alligators in the salt water… You bet they are! I’ve always heard when t
I never worried about gators so much, in my experience they shy away from adultish people. I saw that video of the Bull shark a while back though…they don’t shy away so much.

The sad story of the child being killed in Orlando has everyone up in arms like we just now discovered Alligators are carnivores. That being said, if someone told me to stay out of the water because there was a 4 or 5 foot alligator somewhere, I would point at them, laugh at them, and then encourage them to drive back to Ohio.

Sounds about right to me. Once they get to about 6.5 feet they become a threat in my book and that’s only if they are wounded or sick. I doubt a gator less than 8 foot would even try to grab a adult if it wasn’t starving. Above 8 im not so confident in but in reality most gators are scared of adult people.
