Saw this and just had to share it. Can’t verify that they were in fact 18 miles out, but putting their names on it, would add some credibility, no? Anyway, thought it was worth a look, and to see what comments it might produce. Enjoy!!
That’s a pretty decent sized gator too. Back around 2004 I saw one about 4-5 feet long sitting on the sand, on the inland side of the bridge, at Breech inlet (IOP side).
… The Cross of Christ is the anvil upon which the hammer of evil wore itself out.
For people to say that gators don’t like saltwater they might want to get better training. Go to mobile alabama and look in mobile bay big gators all over then go farther south to Florida. Not uncommon to find big gators in saltwater

Alan, you don’t have to go to Alabama! We’ve got a good few around our coasts. I was told that there are some studies that show some Alligators have slight functioning Lingual salt glands just not as pronounced as a Crock. We’ve got some that live on barrier islands and as long as they can get to a fresh water source in a couple of days they can tolorate salt fairly well. Some stay in brackish waters all there life.
Personally I believe the rare ones seen way off shore are just lost or searching for new hunting grounds. I’ve seen a few in upland fields miles from any water source.
