GCR or Upper cooper?

Been wanting to go up that way and try for some bass and bream soon before it gets real cold. Should I put in at bushy park freshwater, cypress gardens, or the GCR? I have a 14’ Jon boat

Up until the past few years, I fished the GCR all the time. It is close to the house, so I could come home from work, grab the boat and fish for a few hours in the evening. I don’t know how the fishing is out there now, but I imagine it is still the same. The only downside to GCR this time a year is if you are eating the fish, they have a muddy taste to them, so I catch and release…

Question about GCR (might be a dumb one) - I’m only used to boating in the salt of the lowcountry, how deep is GCR and is it filled with stumps? Basically, my boat is a 17’ KW, would I be safe fishing out of it or am I risking a big hole from underwater stumps/cypress knees?

It is surprisingly clear of underwater hazzards. around the edges, you will find the occasional stump, but in the middle, you should be good. I have had my 19’ KW out there a few times. With that being said, if you go the the goose creek end and pas under the bridge for NADA rd, it is a different story.

Thanks

Yakman, you’ll find GCR to hold more fish, and active more often, although I find it easier to catch largemouth at Bushy Park fw side, esp using shallow crankbaits in between rows of lily pads, about halfway up.

If you are using the kayak, I don’t suggest Cypress Gardens. That is a fairly narrow river, and morons fly through there at wide-freaking-open and won’t pay a kayaker a bit of attention. I’ve been a hair’s breadth from being swamped in my 14’ tinny.
