What kind of gear do you guys use for these bull reds? I’ve hooked into some big ones, and I usually use 30 lb braid on a big Penn spinning reel, 10ft rod…but I know its going to take a lot more to hold these monsters. Any help would be greatly appreciated

That gear is more than adequate to take any red.

Fished Hatteras for many years and for the surf use a 12’ heaver combo with #20 mono with a #50 shock. My daughter landed a 41" (27 lber) this past summer in the surf at Edisto on that rod. Have landed sharks and large cownose rays on it too.I’ve seen 50-60 lb drum landed on similar outfits in rough surf as well. Yours sounds like all you need. I have a friend in NC who landed a 60 lber in the surf back in the 80’s on an 8 foot medium action spinning rod.
