My 03 Ram needs a new ac compressor. Its been my fishing/hunting truck for the last year or so and air conditioning hasn’t been at the top of my list of things to do. I’m installing it myself. I won’t put a grand into her, but if I can have cold ac again for $350, that doesn’t bother me. Replaced the electric fan today and ordered the parts for a whole new ac system to include compressor accumulator drier, expansion device, and o rings.
I don’t have the machine to remove and replace the refridgerant. Can I install everything and then take it somewhere to have them vacuum out the remaining stuff and replace? Or will this damage the system? Id have to drive the vehicle about five miles.
Donnie said it should be just fine. Make sure it has proper oil in system for each component you replace. Make sure trash is blown out of ac. Condenser and lines ibefore installing the new parts if they are not replaced. Call him in a.m. If you want to. He gets up early. Pm ing you his number.
Dang, sound like Penny knows what she’s talking about!
When you pull the orifice tube look it over real good for debris. Sometimes when a compressor fails it trashes the system and it will need a thorough flushing. Also when you get your new compressor some come pre-filled with oil and others don’t.
Ask around for someone with a vacuum pump, I’d loan you mine but it’s already on loan. After flushing the longer you vacuum the system the better. After your done let it sit for a bit to make sure you have no leaks and charge to factory weight.
