get a jon boat on a fixed dock?

the wife and i are looking at building a home on a tidal creek, only a a few inches water at low tide, but looks to be navigable in a jon boat mid tide and up. this particular lot has a fixed dock 5’x10’.

according to sc environmental controls, this is the maximum dock size for the lot. and no floaters, jet docks, or davits are allowed to be added.

anyone have a good method to get a 14’-15’ jon boat on and off of the dock?

how high off the water is the dock at mid tide?

i’d guess 4’-5’

You can always ask for a special ruling for a jet dock. They take up very little room and usually if your neighbors are agreeable, you can get the JD. It is a PITA as far as paperwork, but if you win, it will be worth it.

they call that a “crabbing dock”.
at that size it must be a small creek.
per the regulations, your deck height should be 3’ above mean high water which means 8.5 feet above mean low water.
going to be tough to get the boat up on the fixed pier head without a davit.

it is possible to replace the fixed pierhead with a floater of the same size, which is attached to the walkway via a ramp hinged at each end, this floater can be configured to be a “drive on”
however, a 5 x 10 floater is not very stable.

a better solution might be an aluminum slide ladder that you can use at any tide to board the boat and a set of tide slides (they slide up and down with the tide)to tie the boat to the pilings. this does require leaving the boat in the water at all tides. if this is what you do a boat like a carolina skiff would be a much better choice than an aluminum jon boat.

thanks guys. that’s some good info.
