Getting latex paint off of car paint?

Anyone know how to get latex house paint off of car paint? Driving down Bees Ferry road on thurs night and in front of me on the road was freshly spilled white paint! I couldn’t avoid it and went right through it. Now I have white paint splattered over the bottom edge of our blue jeep!

How do I get it off? Thanks!

you can try washing it off with alot of elbow grease,or you can get some bug and tar remover and try that.Or you can use a plastic scraper and carefully start scraping.

Double D.

I’ve heard WD-40, and a clean rag will work?

Car polish and a rag plus a lot of rubbing. My wife now knows to not use a can of spray paint upwind of my truck on a windy day:frowning_face: It was just a lot of small specks all over the truck. I’m thinking you may have a more solid paint job though:question:

I would try denatured alcohol first then if that doesn’t work you could try Goof-Off (original formula). I’ve used it in the house to remove latex wall paint from oil based trim paint. Of course what ever you try, apply to a small inconspicuous area first to make sure it doesn’t dull the finish.

There is something called a “clay bar” that auto pinters use to remove over spray and auto collectors use to keep their show cars spiffy clean. You can order it n line and find it at a lot of the car auto supply places like auto zone. Take off paint, tar etc and isn’t supposed to damage the paint.

clay bar is the bomb. $20 kit at advance or autozone includes 2 bars, detail spray and a microfiber cloth.

I’ve never heard of clay-bar, and need to get some.

However, I have pretty extensive experience cleaning latex paint off of various surfaces. I used to manage a paint crew at the seminary I graduated from. We painted 2-8 apartments/townhomes a week and inevitably got latex on everything from the work truck, to the bedliner, to vinyl and laminate flooring, to counter tops. We were always able to get it off.

Here is what you should try, and you may have these laying around your house.

  1. For any solvent, use a bath rag. The shaggy fibers do a good job cutting into the soft latex but not the hard urethane on your Jeep.

  2. Try, in this order:

—Hot water in a bucket (as hot as you can stand it) with a rag.
—409
—WD40
— Isopropyl rubbing alcohol
—denatured alcohol
—finally, anything else you have to pay money for.

I have cleaned crap off of cars using lacquer thinner. I do not recommend it, but it does work, and it didn’t damage the paint on my car. I had some odd yellow stain that wouldn’t come off with anything, but a little wipe of lacquer thinner took it off.

Call your local body shop. I’m sure they would tell you what you can do. I would definitely get professional advise before using any solvents on your paint job…

thanks everyone for the help! I decided to start with the simplest remedy and work up from there (K.I.S.S.!)
Elbow grease, car wash concentrate and the green side of one of the soft scrub things did the trick!!
Took off the paint, no problem!! sometimes the simplest things are the best!
