Getting ready for first trip

This will be my first year of offshore fishing beside for kings in close. I have a couple of questions. How much 50lb test line will a 30vw hold? How many rigged ballyhoo do you rig the night before? How many do you carry in case you need more? Do you keep them on ice or in a brine? If in a brine what mixture. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

How much 50lb test line will a 30vw hold?..more than enough

How many rigged ballyhoo do you rig the night before?..none, once you learn to rig the right way, it can be done very quickly. About a half hour from setting the spread, we put 3 packs in a bucket of seawater to thaw. We will de-poop, de-eye, and limber up the hoos (2 pkgs) when we start to set the spread. I have rigged with wire, springs, and now only use the little black rubber bands. Skinnee made me a believer out of them. As for how many…5 or 6 packs

Do you keep them on ice or in a brine?..lay the worked hoos on top of the empty plastic bags on ice that is well drained.

the speed at which you can rig baits and using SkinneeJ’s method of rigging a small chin weight, they swim beautiful!

Remind me to show you a trick I learn on using rubber bands Thursday night. It is better than the little black ones.

If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you’ve got an electrical problem.

Where are you going? When? What do you plan to target? Got any lures? Planer rod?

thanks for the input sells, agreed, rubber bands are fast, and the baits swim nicely with the chin weight. that is how we used to rig our baits, until we could not find the right size black rubber bands and switched back to bait springs. i am always looking for new ways to rig and always open to see how others do it.

No planer rod. I plan on using downrigger for a possible chance at a wahoo. Lures yes. Mainly Sea Witches assorted colors. Plan on running two squid chains for teasers from transom eyes. Targeting anything that will put up a fight. The when and where I’m still working on.
