I have been in Charleston for a few years, but have not been able to get out fishing much. If anyone has any pointers on fly fishing around Charleston, or if anyone is looking to do some fishing, let me know. I am from Pennsylvania, so I have a lot to learn about saltwater fly fishing.

Simon, Can you share the info you sent? If you post on the forum, then many of us can benefit from the effort you put into the response.
The best thing you can do is stop into the Lowcountry Fly Shop and we’ll get ya pointed in the right direction… if you are an Angler fan then stop into the Mt P Angler and talk to Mad Mike… either place we’ll help ya with gear, flies and maybe even a spot or two to get ya started [
Rods: this subject is as varied as the Chevy vs Ford argument, bottom line, cast a bunch of rods and find one you like, you can afford and will suite your casting style. You can spend a little or a lot, just get what works for you. What ever route you take make sure it has a lifetime warranty because you WILL break a rod, get the best quality you can afford…
Reels: again the Chevy vs Ford… for salt water reels are a little more important than freshwater, you need a solid reel to stand up to the salt and again you can spend a little or a lot but bottom line buy a good quality reel and it will last much longer then a cheap one
line: NEVER skimp here. I am a big RIO fan and the RIO Redfish if the heat, although the Bonefish Quickshooter is quickly becoming my favorite. Scientific Anglers makes some good lines too, but I am not up to speed on them. A $20 line on a $1000 rod will cast like crap but a $80 line on a $30 rod will still cast like a dream… get a good line no matter what…
Flies: basically a baitfish pattern, a crab pattern or a shrimp pattern… color makes a little difference but you’d be surprised at how a crazy colored fly properly presented will get eaten just as quickly
