Gheenoe Center console

Anyone have a gheenoe center console ? Interested in getting one

I used to have one (sold in 2011) and found that they are few and far between here in the lowcountry. Try the florida sportsman online boatstore, the microskiff.com for sale section, or the customgheenoe.com for sale section. I bought mine from a guy down in jacksonville and sold it to someone in Atlanta. Both sales were from the customgheenoe website.

Jerms is the only one I know with a Geenoe, but he’s on the other side of the world right now…

I’ve thought about getting a gheeonoe to take my son fishing in skinny water. I mostly fish out of a kayak but he’s only 3 and my kayaks arent suitable for more than one person.I figured a gheenoe with a 6hp would be perfect. But the fact that nobody in the lowcountry has them is a concern to me. My question in why not? I figure they are more stable than a kayak and would be perfect in flats.

I think the reason you don’t see more Gheenoes around here is the same reason you don’t see that many micro-skiffs in general around here, they aren’t that versatile. If you are moving up from a kayak, they are a huge leap in stability and range, but they won’t get you through the harbor or out to the jetties or even across the Wando if the wind is blowing 15 knots. I loved mine and only replaced because I was fishing with my Dad more who is 70+ and had a little trouble walking around my Gheenoe (mostly because it had a center console, not because it was tippy). I bought another micro-skiff with a side console. I would recommend a Gheenoe to a kayaker without hesitation. They are extremely easy to trailer, launch, store, maintain, etc., sort of like a kayak but enable you to easily fish with another person or two and get to a bunch more areas. J.P. PM me if you have any other questions.

Thanks, anhinga. I’ve had offshore boats, sailboats, ski boats etc. I’m not looking for anything complicated. Just something to take my boy fishing in the flats and store in the garage. I figured a gheenoe would be good because it can go anywhere a kayak can go and accompany the kayaks. I appreciate your input. Very helpful info.

have you looked at river hawk boats? They are very similar to gheenoes but i think they have more layouts and wider boats in the center console models. I like the b 72 osprey. http://www.riverhawkboats.com/

I had a camo tiller steer 15’4" with a 8hp 4-stroke yamaha. I tricked it out with a static jack plate and even adjustable trim tabs.

Great little boat, but it had serious limitations. In the creek it was OK, unless a big boat was throwing an enormous wake. In those cases, it turned into a very scary roller coaster ride. That boat would have been great on a small lake or even in a smaller creek/river. (I think that is why you don’t see more of them around here.)

If I were to get another one, I would not get one smaller than the 15’6".

There are lots of advantages to a Gheenoe as long as you understand its intended purpose and don’t try to exceed it capabilities.

Have a 15 6" Gheenoe NMZ , love it for Winter Reds, 8 & 15 hp yammy 2 stroke.

Poles like a dream, it is not self bailing, be careful on big h2o, ICW no go unless you have a escape plan for large wakes like right now with all the South bound Snowbirds.

Very inexpensive and quiet, btw the 13 and 15s pole better from the Bow IMHO, cant imagine a pole platform on mine.
