Gheenoe Owners

Posted this in the boats and motors forum also, but figured this would be a good place to post also.

Interested to see if anyone around here is running a gheenoe. I’ve been researching them online, particularly the Low Tide 25. I’d be using it primarily for sight fishing with a fly rod. Obviously any kind of microskiff is going to have its limitations, but I’m wondering how these rigs handle the occasional big boat wake in the ICW. There’s a ton of info on microskiff, but I don’t think most of those guys deal with the wakes we do. The price is right and the turn around time on the build is quick. I’ve just seen very few around here. Any input is appreciated.

I run a Classic.

Wouldn’t want to run the ICW on a weekend afternoon or anything, but it does handle chop/wakes better than you’d think. The LT25 is quite a bit larger than mine, but I haven’t been in one and therefore can’t speak on it’s capabilities.

A long long slow walk in the spartina gives you time to think big thoughts and put your mind back into order.

are there any other brands you’re considering? i know there’s not a ton of well-known options out there in this size range.

I have talked to the guys at Gheenoe and Erin at Ankona about a Shadowcast. The Ankona is probably a little more than I would be able to spend, though. I have also looked at the River Hawks and Salt Marsh Skiffs. I just got married and have a few things to work out before I’ll be in a position to make a move though. Obviously, none of these boats are going to be crossing the harbor or getting to Capers on a weekend but I think any of them would be more than adequate for skinny water fishing.

microskiff.com 's for sale forum is your friend

x2 on microskiff’s “for-sale” forum.
at the risk of sounding like a fan-boy (i realize I’m always blathering on about them), i might add Towee to your list. i really like mine, and it’s been a great company to work with- first class support after the sale too, which is not easy to come by.

OnefishTwofish - the Towees do look interesting. What kind of options do you have on yours? The website says its a 17.5" transom, which I guess means a long shaft motor? Only asking because I have a short shaft 25 2-stroke sitting around. Guess I could always sell that…

Ghenoe 15 NMZ 8 yam 2/stroke, love it.
True about ICW, don’t get boxed in by a big Sportfisher wake.

i have a short shaft suzuki 20 on it. was getting some cavitation with the stock prop- went up a little on the pitch and has been great since then. one person and light load it will run 29mph at wot. 26-27 with two people and gear. i have a trolling motor on it, electrical package, poling platform, and seadek. its amazing to pole, and great in the back creeks. have to take it pretty easy in the open water though and watch the weather/wakes closely.

I have a riverhawk B60, similar to the gheenoe LT25 but a few differences.
I have fished out of LT25 and they are better fit and finish than what I have and as my wife says, don’t feel like a potato chip when running over chop. If you are not concerned about getting wet, the B60 or LT25 will do a great job. The gheenoe guys have a great following and have a gheenoe meet once a year. Pretty neat.
Through a 25hp on the back (Some running 40hp!!) and you are good to go.

My riverhawk B60 is plain jane and I am thinking about selling and getting a bigger boat as we are expecting twins!
It is light, easy to move, and simple.

Either boat is really stable and can handle some waves, just run a bildge pump as it is easy to get wet.
There are some awesome custom gheenoes.
I have been eyeing the ankona 17 foot native…
