went out to the boat today to grab my keys out of it and dang if the trim on the motor wasnt going up and down! dnt know how long its been doing this but i took it out yesterday and didnt have this problem! had to disconect the battery terminal for it to stop effn weird. anybody ever seen this happen?
Most of the time the trim switch on the control box is the culprit. gets water in it from rain or a good wash down. sometimes you can get back there blow it out and apply di-electric grease to prevent it from happening again. Probably not the relay. disconnect your harness and hook your battery back up, if it is no longer present problem is at control box. if still there more than likely the pan switch.
the switch could be shorted, but that would be very unusual to short both directions.
is it a binacle or side mount control box?
if its a binacle, under teh dash, 3 wires plug in blue green and red
unplug them
if its a side mount, just aft of the control box, you will have the same 3 plugs, unplug them.
try the switch on the motor if everythin functions, I would go with a short in the wiring in the handle.
if it still malfunctions, disconnect teh switch at the motor, and plug the other switch back in.
if it still malfunctions, the problem is most likely in the relays
I had a KW 1520 that had a lot of problem like that, what i found was that the condensation from the early morning would sometimes make the connections very tempermental, what time did you try to move it and when did you take it out. If it was morning when you had the problem and then mid-day you didn’t have the problem, i would suggest that you should unplug the connection at the trottle box and spray them with anti corrosion or di-electric grease to prevent any moisture prevent a misconnection. Now when you hit the button, does the t/t motor run and the engine not move, most times its the seal on top of the piston that has allowed a slow amount of hidraulic fluid to escape each time you move it up and down and now you maybe at the point that you dont have enought to make the motor go up or down. Check the rubber seal on the top of the ressavor and see if there is corrosion around the rubber, if so replace the cap, its very easy and if you need help with that, reply
cost to replace yourself is cheap compared to having someone else do it.
