gigging flounder in 100' and cobia!

watched the weather all week and made the call after Capt. craven said the weather would lay down as the day went on. he was right and the ride out wasn’t to bad, riding the trough made for a decent ride and the weather got really nice around 10:00am. hit some live bottom and caught some 20" seabass culling anything smaller, some beeliners and triggers for dinner and the bite quit @ 9:00 as the tide turned. tim the cobia man caught a 60+lb cobe(Imop)on a chicken rig with a 4/0 cir. hook! after a 30 min. battle with capt. eric fighting the anchor line we knocked the fish off the line with the gaff! bummer, but tim being the trooper he is said no sweat! put tim and marvin in to dive and an epic battle insued with a brute, 37lb cobe which tim shot and marvin tag teamed with around 8 holes in his head with a kill spike! divers came up pumped, out of air and sea stories for the next hr.!

15’ viz and a killer thermocline with the surface temp @ 82deg and the bottom @ 68! big change from last few weeks! realfis01 and I dove next and didn’t pull the trigger. tons of bait and other bottom dwellers but no shooters. viz getting worse though there was almost no current. put tim and marvin in for their second dive and they held class again. a nice gag, stories of missed fish and 5 flounder from 5 to 10lbs, doormats!

eric and I couldn’t stand the pressure and jumped in and sent up six flounder. missed a couple of grouper but they were really spooked with the low viz which was down to around 10’. could have gigged some more flounder but held back waiting for that big fish which never showed up.
great day on the water with realfish01, cobe master tim dake, spike (marvin) and longtime friend rod newburn who ain’t never seen chit like that! killer grilled chicken pitas and cold margureritas all day compliments of tim, will keep him on the top of the list! (trying to knock off jorda

You guys are killing me by getting a cobia on every trip that I don’t make :frowning: And the flounder too, I though that was my speciality

Great work and sorry we couldn’t get you on the radio. I’ll sort that out before next trip.

Ed i didn’t realize there was a food competition going on here as well- gimme 24 hrs notice next time and i will guarantee my breakfast burritos to knock any existing food off ur list

Nice work Ed!

That’s how we pic our crew Fishbarrels , a good diver has to be able to utilize the whole resource , I have raised my kids, if you can’t contribute to the team effort, stay home! We would like to try your wraps. Out crew has really raised the bar lately.

If it got any better I couldn’t stand it.

Oh my goodness!! Those are some nice fish there! Congrats!

What your not getting is that they got all of those flounder in one single shot so it counts as one.

you’re right. my bad. i was thinking that the fish had lost so much blood and moisture from the spear and ride home that by the time the fish hit the deck, it had lost several pounds. a la flybouy’s big crock blue marlin.
