Gigging Help

Im looking to try my luck at it, Ive been once and did terribly. Anyone with experience help me out with beginner tips like when to go what bottom is best or does it matter? any insight would help im doing my research but not getting to much info. Thanks Caleb

I like to gig oysters

We always liked to gig when low tide was around 10:00 - 11:00 pm. Get there at dark, around 9:00 pm, and gig the out going and then the incoming tides. Oyster beds have always been productive as well as a sandy bottom. We like grass, too. We don’t care too much for plain pluff mud. Go under piers and look around the pylons. Small creek mouths where they intersect with larger creeks are good spots especially if there are oysters along the banks. If you’re not seeing bait jumping in the lights, its probably not a good place. I’ve seen flounder so shallow that their tails would almost be out of the water. When the tide is just at the edge of the grass, look around the grass clumps closely. Cover lots of ground and soon you’ll start figuring out the better spots. Also, it might just be that you need to recognize what a flounder looks like. They can be hard to see until you start to understand what you’re looking for. When they are sitting on oysters, they are well camouflaged and can be hard to see. My .02 worth.

Just get one of these. Will not damage any meat. And you can use it in the daytime.
