Givhan's ferry tips?

Last week I went to Givhan’s ferry state park, I fished from both the shore near the deepest parts I could find (deeper than 6’) in the shade as well as in a small kayak. I started from around 5:45 am and straight until 3 pm (sunburned and sore but it was fun) and around half a mile from the state park cabins in both directions, and I couldn’t get a bite. I tried around a dozen different lures, including chicken liver for catfish, different spinners, worms, and carolina rigged floating bait. Anyone fish around there have any suggestions of what to use, or where on the river I could paddle? Attached is a picture I took, for reference of where I was if anyone knows the name of that bridge.

Fished the Edisto a lot, but never in that area. Try a cricket under a cork in the deeper shady eddies, a beetle spin tipped with a cricket, (white with red dot has always been my favorite), or a red roaster tail is great, just be careful for snags as they stick to everything and get expensive replacing. You might also want to try a pink worm on a small gold hook with a split weight 10" up on the bottom if the above doesn’t work. In this hot weather sometimes that is the trick to get red breast to bite.

Good luck!!

X2 Water is really low now. Redbreast - brim - channels cats is about it.

thats the hwy 61 bridge. and a good ole cricket as close to the cypress as you can get it

small, crawdad crank bait in a rusty orange color

black or white beetle spin

white worm with or without weight

It ain’t as bad as the pig tries to make it sound.

Try some catalpa worms if you can find them.

ElectricBass: I used to fish the Edisto out of Givan’s way back in the '70s. The best times are when the river is between 4-6 ft.The current stage is about 1.5 ft., don’t waste your time.

Thanks, is there a typical time of year that’s best in your experience? Or is it really dependent on weather? I found a National Weather Service chart of the river at http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=chs&gage=GIVS1 , I’ll keep my eye on it.
