Go Pro

I’m definitely looking at getting a hd hero2 for filming fishing, fly fishing, surfing, or just stuff in general. It takes very high quality video and pictures but i don’t exactly know what software works for it. I know most soft-wares convert it or cant handle the high quality. The ones that can are confusing as anything and take hours to learn, they are very professional. What do you recommend about editing film? I have a thing called “Sony Vegas” I can download on computer. Also the hd hero2 has a 170 degree field of view which mean it probably will get good film or pictures of what your aiming at without the LCD back pack. Or will that help to make sure you are shooting video of what you want or taking pictures of what you want? What do you know about these questions. Any information is greatly appreciated

Sony Vegas is a great program and can probably handle anything you throw at it. However, as I remember, it’s also really expensive, and it might take a while to get used to it. Adobe Premiere Elements is another great editing program, and i think its a little more user friendly, but both are good choices. The camera’s wide angle lens will make everything have that fish-eye look to it, which will be really nice for POV shots, but another camera for anything else yo want to do would look alot better. Another thing to consider is the sound quality. If you’re looking to work on project like you see at F3T, then you’d probably want a better microphone, as the one on the Gopro is really small and would likely catch alot of wind and other unwanted sound.

Inshore,

I’m also looking into a GoPro system and went to the GoPro demo at the Charleston Angler last week. The rep recommended any editing software that you are comfortable with that can handle mpeg4 file formats. I’ll probably be using a program called Cinelerra - free software for Linux.

From what I understand about the Hero2 it has 170, 127 and 90 degree FOV capabilities (check the website at http://gopro.com/hd-hero2-cameras/ ). One of the films shot by one of the people at the seminar using the Hero2 mounted on the center console using the native audio during a run indicated that the wind noise cancellation on the native audio is quite good. I’ll certainly be planning to try out the native audio before upgrading to a more professional mic. Most of the uses I plan for the device will require the 90 FOV so the LCD will be of immense help. The only problem is that it drains the battery much faster and the battery back pack cant be used with the LCD backpack due to space and connection limitations - Hero3 modifications?

Hope this helps in your quest>
