My wife tells me that all the time.
Yea,showed my wife that quote too,as she walked away she muttered under breath,“yea right”.[:I]
I was taking a 19’ Outrage out 50 miles when I was 16-17…Back when dad would gas up the boat and I didn’t have to worry about having job. Come summertime, it was on.
just 3 dudes dolphin fishin in a sf197…

If you’re going to the reef that’s great, but I haven’t had any luck at them lately. I think they’re getting fished hard this time of year. You might want to ask some buddies for some good bottom numbers.
just another day in the ol sf197
good times

btw that was a legal snapper caught during the 7 day season last summer. suck it SAFMC!

Who caught that fish for Pete?
Thats a nice catch but I have yet to see water that calm this summer. Maybe thats just because I haven’t made it past the so called "washing machine"water at the jetties. Definitely eager to get out there.

The only thing missing is his cheeseburger shirt! I have a pic of that somewhere…
why don’t you go around the jetties? I only run out the jetties if I’m heading to the left, straight out or to the right- take dynamite hole and miss the washing machine
I’ve taken my 19’ sea pro bay boat 55 miles out- I’ve even been to the ledge in a 14 McKee a number of times. just need to catch the weather right and hope it doesn’t catch you wrong.
You’ve been to the ledge in a 14 McKee? You must be a special kind of crazy like me. I’d love to do that. Whenever I go to the 60, I often take dynamite hole, but with a south swell, the waves can get annoying in the shallows just offshore.
The wave height and period don’t tell the whole story. The direction is important too. Then there are more considerations, getting there and back: are you getting beat up, and is it safe. Then there is the question of whether you can fish effectively wherever.
My 197sf can ride rough depending on the above. But I go to the 60 regularly, and beyond some. The wave forecasts are problematic and the only real way to judge is to head out.
Some say a 22 rides much better; I’d like to know if anyone has ridden in both in same seas. Next question is whether the 22 is really different, fishing in rough seas.

Ona Mission - Could you elaborate on some of those variable like which wind directions are best? I’m a neophyte to all this as well and looking to start getting experience going out, but don’t want to get myself (or others) in trouble.
Just looking to do things right and I totally respect the advice of your guys that’s been doing this “forever”.

Anything easterly is bad unless you go out of the hole and run straight south.
Anything northly is bad because it slops up between swells, and the ocean is confused. You can’t use the running south trick because it will take you twice as long to get back as it did for you to get out.
You want a southerly, variable wind. That’s called picking your day. A thunderstorm in a summer afternoon will educate you on how well (not) that technique works.
Use your tide charts and avoid the mouth of the jetties on an outgoing tide when wind is coming out of the east at all.
Remember it’s the ocean, and it can change rapidly on you. If you feel that you aren’t prepared for what can happen, then simply put, you aren’t- and you shouldn’t endanger lives until you do feel prepared. Some people aren’t prepared and never know it. That’s why it’s a good idea to go with people who have been doing it for years. You’ll learn from them what they have learned at greater expense hopefully.
