Going offshore

Hello, I’m replacing my fuel tank in my mako and would like to know how much fuel does it take to go offshore from Charleston. It has a 69 gallon tank in it now and all I can find available that actually fit now are 52 gallon. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The boat is a 24’ Mako with a 250 Yamaha 2 smoke. Anyone know of a good place to get a tank fast?

I have a 22’ Grady White 225 yamaha 2 stroke. 92 Gallon main tank. Going to approx 120ft and bottom fishing all day burns about 70 gallons. That is approximately 110 miles round trip from the dock, and running the motor all day while drifting and in between spots.

Have you looked at classicmako.com? I had a local fabricator in Garden City SC make a new tank for me, but I cant remember what I paid. Range is definitely an issue with a single outboard, but more importantly safety should be of concern. What do you do if your only motor ****s the bed 2.5 hours offshore in changing conditions? I wouldn’t dream of running out past 30 miles without a very new and warrantied motor, coupled with a good navigation system.

Yeah I wouldn’t dare go offshore without a buddy boat. Not really planning to go offshore but we all know how plans change. I just want to have what I need if I should decide to go. I’ve looked on classicmako but timing is everything right now.

If I go through GC, then I’ll try to remember to grab his card. I don’t think I paid more than $600.00 for the tank. Boatlifecharleston on FB can be an ok resource for finding marine vendors as well.

Ive went offshore trolling in a bay boat once i think it ha a 40 gal tank and we covered over 250 miles… We brought 4 or 5 5 gallon gas cans extra.

I have a 22ft Sea Fox with a 200hp Yamaha 4 stroke. It holds 105 gallons. We went trolling about 50 miles offshore and stopped for bottom fish. Burned about 65 gallons.
