Going to Hawaii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I’m going to Hawaii at the end of May for my honeymoon! We are staying at a Condo at The Yacht Harbor Towers in Honolulu right on the water.

So, who has been to Hawaii? Where should I go? Where should I eat? What beaches should I go to? What tours should I do?

I have already decided I want to go to
Diamond Head
Pearl Harbour
Waikiki Beach

Any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks in advance!

all three of your listed attractions are good, Snorkeling at a bay on the north side of the island, cant remeber what the name of it is but its cool. Dukes restaraunt on waikiki beach is good, and there is a great breakfast buffet over looking wakiki beach its kinda pricy but it is GRRREeaaaaaattttt!! (the name escapes me as its been three years since i was there. Dole plantation is kinda cool but most of the locals hate the Dole family as he Dole wasnt kind to the queen of Hawaii before we annexed it. I did do some fishing but it was in Maui. We trolled for 6 hours pulling anything from plugs to live mackeral trying to find Marlin but to no avail. I was dissapointed but knew that the mate was doing everything he could. One boat that day caught a marlin. they told me that the week before they caught a bunch of dolphin and tuna. So give it a shot if you want but most people dont guarantee anything! Good luck with it. If u have any questions lemme know!!

tl,

i been looking up some fishing charters, but id rather not spend the money, when i know i can have the same type of fishing here. how much money honestly do you think i would need over there for food and fun for the week. i don’t know how anything is priced over there. last time i was there i was 4. breakfast lunch and dinner, breakfast and lunch casual, but nice dinners obviosuly, are things priced pretty much the same as any other city?

definitly want to snorkel and ride some waves on the boogey board. how is wakiki beach? i hear it can be overrated.

i will prolly rent a car or a jeep or something for the week and kinda explore the island, but the future wifey really just wants to lay on the beach. but im just trying to plan and see how much $$ im gonna need. maybe go out to some bars or whatever too ya know.

go to a luau…
and eat lots of poi…

as far as pricing its kinda steep considering everything has to be shipped in. had a jack and coke for round $9 that breakfast buffet was $25 a head but it was out of this world. I wish I could give a better idea of the pricing, but I was with my parents and they were footing the bill so I didn’t really see the prices to much. The prices are definitely higher than normal cities just because of the wow factor of Hawaii. I can tell u try to get a plane ride that stops in LA or Cali first. We flew straight from ATL and I thought I was gonna go crazy. 9 hours there 8 back. My mom and I ended up drinkin beer and talkin to the flight attendants in the back. Rent a car for sure, drive up to the North shore and see Wiamea Bay ( where they have the Surf competitions in the winter) At Wiamea Bay/beach there is a cliff that everybody climbs up and jumps off, its about 20 feet down, it’s a blast gotta give that a try. Pic a day and pack a lunch, Subway subs of what have u and just drive the along the North side of the island stooping at Wiamea beach for lunch and a dip in the crystal clear water. They have showers so u can get back in the car and keep driving comfortably. On the North side there is the Polynesian Cultural Center where they have all kinds of demonstrations of the culture, look it up we didn’t get to go because we didnt know about it till we saw it. ask about the black sand beaches, i cant remember if there are any on Oahu or not maybe just Maui, but they are pretty cool, its not really sand its tiny tiny black pebbles of volcanic rock but cool lookin. im sure ill remember other things buts thats all I got right now!

Kut,

Sent you a PM. I used to live there and would be happy to help you separate the tourist traps from the really awesome sights. The Islands and their people are truly magical, but if you stick to the tourist traps you’ll miss some of the very best parts.

Aloha,
Dave

I went to Maui and had a good time although the tourist trap economy was so well constructed that it was almost impossible to do anything without first touring a timeshare property or listening to a sales pitch. If you go to Maui, you absolutely must charter a bike ride down Haleakala volcano. It is the worlds longest downhill bike ride and lasts for hours and you don’t even have to pedal. You know you are riding down one big hill when you have to stop half way for lunch. Oh and while you are there, be sure to try the fresh pineapple. It’s a completely different tast than the ones that they send to the continent because of how the sugar converts to acid. If its in season, also eat fresh lyche fruit. It goes without saying that you should also do some fishing or diving while you are there too.

Kayak, SCUBA, or both.

Never been, but there’s an article in the newest Fly Fishing in Salt Waters about Hawaii Bonefish.

Go diving. Either SCUBA or from a perfectly good airplane. Or both.

I think that place is pretty close to the LOST set. Maybe try to land somewhere around there and ask them what’s up with the story line.

Looked at a lot of fishing charters online, but does anyone know of any good ones out there or if it would be a waste of money this time of year for them.

You are on the wrong Island. The big Island is the fishing mecca of Hawaii (Kona).
It has the active volcano which you can walk right up to lava crossing the road.
Mauai has the road to Hana which is an unbelievable experience. There is a scenic overlook every 100 yds.

Kuaia, The Garden Isle, has the Fern Grotto which is great and has the most pristine shoreline.
However, on your honeymoon, does it matter what is outside of the hotel:smiley:
