If the weather holds out I am going to give it a go in the morning. Anyone been lately that could give some information on whats happening. The fishing has been weird this year for me.
It’s probably not much help but I fished Johns Creek area yesterday morning. Marked scattered small stripers so don’t waste your time there.

Small bait and small fish outside of Jakes last night. But we did manage 9 and brought 5 home to the grill.
I was surprised at how small the herring were in the lights. Like less than 2".

Not only did we not see anything near jakes but we did not see anyone else catching either. We moved to the towers and seen upwards of 8 boats. We were marking fish at 55 feet by the large tower on the south side. One boat caught 5 while the rest of us watched. I was surprised to see them biting at 10am. We had a few bites but no fish.

That’s interesting. We went out Thursday morning and had no trouble getting a 2 man limit of 18-24 inchers on one downrod apiece and a spoon jerkin’ outfit. The fish were on the bottom in 60-70 feet just lying there. Tap the boat and the bottom would explode! Things can change quickly though…
Headed to Clark’s Hill Monday morning to fish the lower lake with the same band director friend who fished with me Thursday. I considered fishing up by Russell’s. However, there’s not cell coverage up there. I’m having sinus surgery on Wednesday and need to be reachable… Thoughts and prayers are certainly appreciated!

Good luck with the surgery James loretta and I will send up prayers for your successful recovery.

I am not making excuses for my own issues, but of about 20 boats I saw only one caught fish.

10-4 Gene! Things can change on a dime. In previous years, when I was hammering the lake every day during my summers off from band directing, I noticed a time in late June when bites became tough to come by. Might have something to do with a summer turnover. I am certainly not judging your fishing abilities. This sport has humbled me way too much:) My team had a big victory in March, but we haven’t done jack squat in tournaments since then. That’s fishing!! No offense intended, and hopefully none taken.
Thanks for the well-wishes Tom!

Thanks for the report. Gonna try the lake in the morning for the first time in a couple of weeks. A little worried about being able to buy bait in the morning with this super moon and all, so we’ll have some spoons ready too. Would you say the spoons were “Deadly” for you?? LOL
Best of luck with your surgery. Let us know how it goes.

we fished Friday evening. call our limit in an hour and a half. we spot locked out in feint of the towers. Fishing 60-75’ deep. did not see one boat catch a fish but us. while talking to other boats they were fishing way too shallow. the key was the bait we kept bait switched out every 5 to 10 minutes.
putting a fresh oxygen doped up bait down will work wonders. some people say oxygen does not help but I think it does make them hyper.

… or you can drop a sudafed in your baitwell to hype ‘em up:smiley: just kiddin’. Never done that but wonder how it would work:imp: A good friend of mine swears by Stacker 2’s.
Yes Skiff! The spoons were of the “deadly” variety. Come up with a circular motion when ripping it. That gives the bait somewhat of a sideways swimming motion. With a semi-taught line on the fall, they can’t stand it! They’re gonna eat it!

That’s “semi-taut,” I mean. However, we are teaching the fish to hit!

I wholly agree our bait was tired by the time we got to the tower. I am going to have to break done and get another bait well just for herring.

ok had some time today to play around with the live well, and this is what I found out realized after reading these posts. I had a bug in the air intake and it just was not blowing bubbles like it should have. So I figured out a quick fix. If you place your finger in the hole that blows water and bubbles it creates a back pressure and that causes the air intake to shoot water out. It also cleans the intake out and in my case fixed my issue. I cant believe all that over a bug.
Evidently the bug got in there over winter, and having not fished in months I did not realize there was an issue. chalk one up for experience.
