Going topless

I wonder what the purpose is to make the call to remove this? I see kids jumping off it all the time, so I’m kinda glad it’s gone. This was a major effort though. Several weeks, probably a dozen employees cutting with plasma torches, a giant crane and a big ole barge to remove it.

Sure would make a great artificial reef!

This had to have been completed Friday.

I mean, that was a sizable effort.

What was that back when?

Beautiful pics Ricky.

I believe they used to use that contraption to lift up the part of track over the water to let big barges through back in the day. I’ve been going through here 20 years and never seen it move. Trains run it multiple times a day every day though.

Phosphate mining equipment,Steam shovels and barges to get it out like 23 said.

Gotcha!!!

Is that the train bridge by wolf island? if so, we use to jump off of that in high school in the 90’s. I saw a guy land on his back, lost his breath and went under. a friend of mine saved him. I climbed up and got scared, was going to climb down that ladder inside, but a train was coming and that thing started shaking so me and my buddy jumped. We were stupid kids. glad it’s down if that is the same one.

Yessir, that’s the one.
