Had a delima. Needed a class IV sinking line for the Roanoke which is only $39, but the problem was a spare spool for my Ross reel is like $170. Can’t see spending that for a line/reel I’ll use 5-6 times a year.
My motto is buy quality… or by super cheap, not in between. I deviated from this strategy and bought Basspro’s Gold Cup IV reel.
If you close your eyes and spin the reel, etc it feels like a high dollar reel. It is saltwater rated and smooth as silk for a fraction of the money.
Now with high end lower costs rods like Temple Fork and reels like this, you can get a SWEETA$$ fly set up equiv to Loomis/Sage/Ross for a FRACTION of the money.
for what’s its worth…
PS: Marshmellow: for the type of dock fishing you do you should really try the wetcel sinking line. It is a full sinking line, you can cast it a mile and it drops like an anvil! Next time I’m down you are welcome to cast mine if you like.
