gold, yellow, and blue from a sail

Sailed the Charleston to Bermuda race and trolled feathers the whole trip. Caught two 10-15lb mahi on the morning of day two, then two yellowfin tunas on a double hookup morning of day three. We were just leaving the east side of the stream and the water temp had just gone from 78 to 76 degrees. Both fish were around 15lbs and absolutely delicious. Day four we were about 300 miles out and god knows how deep when we passed a 2x4 and caught a 25lb mahi.
Friday morning about 65 miles southwest of Bermuda I saw a bill slapping at the black and purple so dropped it back for a five count and hooked her. Blue Marlin!!! Luckily it was a small one (7ft long and maybe 150lbs) and took only 25 minutes to land. We used stern platform to unhook and release her and then had to put the rod away as we wasted most of the race lead stopping to fight the fish.
Managed to push hard, find a shift or two and won the race to top it all off!!! Shame we didn’t fish Challenger Banks but we had a race to win. Hopefully I’ll get the picks up soon.
Best part was the non-existent gas bill… Sailboats still catch fish!

That’s pretty cool stuff, good way to pass the time.

thats awesome!!! congrats.

What boat were you on? Was Colbert on board with you? He was on one boat…not sure which.

On Tucana, Colbert was on Juno. Nice Guy, had good friends on a crew too. Great group of people. Fortunately we were just a bit better (and caught more fish!)

Nice goin for sure! Caught my first dolphin and first tuna ever from a sailboat as well!
Congrats on the win as well!
