Ok, I just ordered a rod and reel set up from TFO, now what? I guess this is just one more forum I’ll have to pay attention to now! Anyone wants to help me out with some flies, I can trade some kayak rentals for your help.
I can’t help you out with any flies, as I’m wayyyy south right now, but I will lend you this piece of advice. If you really want to learn to fly fish, leave the spinning gear at home.
Pillage and plunder with a 9wt and a fist full of clousers.
. now git rid o the rocket launcher on the 'yak and prepare for perfect simplicity. we’ll get em D.
“Throughout history, fly fishing has remained the peak of the angler’s art. Other weapons of attack on dwellers of lake and stream and ocean may come and go, but when a man has tried every one, if he is a philosopher at all, he will come back to the fly rod. No other method of fishing gives the angler the same pleasure.” -Joe Brooks
Hey DD… prepare to be addicted Over the last 3 months here and fly fishing dang near every day, my casting has gotten much better and accurate so I am planning on a couple fly rod only trips to the ville when I get back… get to practicing so we can follow ScottyD around and learn from the reel master… unless of course mad Mike can grace us with his presence haha !! I have been tying up a bunch of M4’s, clousers and some copperheads so I should be well stocked when I get back
If by “grace you with my presence” you mean, show up, drink all the beer, endlessly point out fish that nobody else ever sees but me, and yell at you when you don’t cast the way I think it should be done… then yes… I will “grace you with my presence” any time you would like…
Hey DD glad you took the plundge on the flyrod. Thaks again for turning me on to copahee. I fished a creek that Mad Mike told me about at the Charleston angler and got 17 trout in 2 days. My first salt water fish on the fly, not with a guide, and all on patterns i tied from the recomendations on this board! Thanks everybody and whoever said “Electric Chicken nuff said” was dead on! Thanks
Finally got my flyrod today! This might be a stupid question, but which way should the line come off of a flyrod (from the bottom of the reel, or off the top)?
