Took Nate Dapore from Perserverance and Brian from the Prowess and some friends out on Reel Interest on Sunday. Decided to head north to the SW Banks and G-Town Hole. Dropped our lines and had a good hit and miss right away, think it may have been a wahoo. It wasn’t too long after that the Blue Marlin hit the long rigger, estimate 275-300lbs. From there it was non stop action for the morning as we went 4-6 on sails and some other hits along the way. At one point we had 2 sails on and another 4 after the dredges, but only got one to the boat.
By 11.30 it was all over and dead for afternoon. Weather was spectacular, seas were flat and the company a lot of fun. All caught in 425-450 feet, 81 degrees.
Thought we had more pictures, but the digital camera that we had aboard didn’t have a fast shutter speed for action shots.
Wish you could have been along for the ride, we had a great time with the Ripley crew! The 56 seems to raise the bill fish! Seems that I was all alone on the flybridge on the way home while they were watching football…
The marlin was fought on a Tiagra 30 wide. We typcially run this time of year with 2 Tiagra 50’s from the flybridge on the center rigger, 4 Tiagra 30’s and 2-3 TLD’s from the cockpit.
Great trip Steve. Really enjoyed it. Next time we need to add the Fat Boy and Stardust to the mix for sure.
D, I was overtemped in the pit and had to sit out one of those fish. Just seems the heat from all the reels going off was too much for an old timer like me.
