Me and about 5-7 friends want to go kayak camping/fishing in early October and I wanted to know what areas are good for this. What type of permit do we need for a camp fire? The paddle can’t be more than 4 miles because we will have a few girls with us that haven’t been kayaking before. The fishing doesn’t need to be awesome. I plan on leaving a few baited lines out overnight with some pinfish and cut bait on to try and catch breakfast. Any area that is beach like and secluded would be ideal. Thanks for the input guys.

Freshwater; Church island upper lake. No permit needed. PLENTY of down trees for firewood. There another post on here about it. Myself or SCBrian started it. I cant remember
Wolf island, about a 1/2 mile upriver from limehouse ldg. (no permit, beautiful canopy of oaks)
Capers is great, but for a more seasoned crowd.
With inexperienced campers/ paddlers, I would suggest you find a campsite and incorporate a day long paddle. I know this from experience:smiley:
intersection of rantowles and stono. I like to camp in living room (point area), but under the oaks is real senic. I also prefer to fish intercoastal compared to rantowes, which is on the point and you might need some shoes.
If ya’ll want to do someting real crazy, paddle up to the train tressel and tie yaks off, then climb up and lay under tracks when train is coming over[:0]
I knew i wasnt the only one that would mention wolf island. Its a great place and the women will love it. there is some good fishing off the train tressel( you can see it from the island). I use to jump off that thing when i was in HS its kind a fun.
I was told by SCDNR that Capers Island is the only place that you are allowed to camp and that you even need a (free) permit to do that. They knew nothing about a wolf island. From what I hear, Capers can get darn crowded.

Go to the north end, you’ll have the beach to yourself! (at least almost to your self)
