Went out yesterday about 9:30 to try some bottom fishing. We were catching some decent sized bsb but the sharks were everywhere, caught 6 sharks about 4-5 feet long and hooked another 6 that didn’t get the hook. We decided to move to another unmarked spot in 30’ I found recently but haven’t fished yet. That turned out to be a good move. I switched to artificials and the larger black sea bass couldn’t resist. We kept twenty from the 14" to 17" range and threw back plenty in the 12-13" range. We only caught a handful that were below 12". All in all it was a good day , ocean was flat, temperature was ideal and caught enough fish for a nice fish fry.
where were you fishing out of? good report.
Harry Sea. Thats how I roll.
What type of artificials?
The spot was about 4 miles southeast from the end of jetties . I marked some good bottom structure coming in one day and finally got to try it out. The bait was a white bucktail jig w/red eyes and I attached a white grub with a curly pink tail. It weeded out all the small black sea bass and all we caught were above the 12" size.
Great fishin… 30 ft for those BSB that saves time reelin those babys to the boat. I went sheep huntin last week and to my surprise I caught a few BSB. Although they were under 12 in, but still fun to catch.

Yes it was nice not having to reel them up from deeper water not to mention it only took us a short time to get there. I really like the part about not burning alot of gas to get to some decent fishing also. The water was very clear for that close in and you could see down about 10-12 feet . Every time we would catch one there would be two or three that would follow it to the surface. These were defintely some of the bigger sea bass I’ve caught since I started fishing here. I’ve caught some around the 13-14" range before but for every big one you would catch 15 small ones. We caught maybe four small ones around the 10" size and everything else was 12" plus.
Its good to see some limit restriction are increasing the fish size.
At one time we were happy to catch the 8 inch BSB and hardly any over 10 or 11 inches at times.
Great catch…

ctman thanks for noting that it used to not be this good. Since I just started fishing seriously and am relatively new, I wouldnt of known that. Now, I will be reluctant to keep 12" bsb’s and hope that this will make a differance to other people as far as not keeping any fish that is legal.
Harry Sea. Thats how I roll.
I know where you went cdt be careful about saying where this spot is Ive been fishing it for years with verylittle presure i think thats why its so good. Great job on the fish .
think alot of people actually know where this spot is. not a huge secret
