HEADED OUT EARLY THIS AM IN SEARCH OF THE MANHADEN AND FIND THEM WE DID. BY THE THOUSANDS! QUICKLY STARTED OFF AND IN NO TIME WERE FISHING IN 60 FT AND HOOKED UP WITH A SMALL KING. SO WE DECIDED TO HEAD ON OUT TO 100 FT AND THE BIGHT WAS ON. COULDNT KEEP BAITS IN THE WATER FOR 2 HOURS KING AFTER KING AFTER KING AND THE OCCASIONAL SHARK. WAS HOPING TO MAYBEE CATCH A DOLPHIN TOOO BUT NO LUCK. FINALLY ENDED THE DAY CATCHING 7 SHARKS AND 9 KINGS BIGGEST WAS ABOUT 20 LBS. HOPEFULLY WE WILL START TO SEE SOME BIGGER ONES SOON. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE AND HOPE TO BE BACK AT IT SOON.

Nice report-you had a great day. Guess I will have to wait awhile until the kings get closer to shore, I am “chicken” to go far off-shore; it is nice to know they are getting closer!

The “thing” (the boat) I’m sure can handle a significant off-shore trip.
It’s the “thing” that’s in the boat (me) that , at age 70, has trouble doing the things I did a “few” years ago:roll_eyes:.
Thank you for your suggestion; but my days of venturing far off in a small boat are over.

WE FISHED AT CHAS 60 AND CAUGHT 1 KING THERE AND THEN HEADED OUT TO SOME #'S IN 100 FT AROUND COMANCHEE.
CAUGHT ALMOST EVERYTHING ON PURPLE AND BLACK ON THE DOWNRIGGER.

Big KINGS are sneaking by close to the rocks. Fish the clean water lines close to the menhaden schools, you caught. The bite probably wont be as hot but the pay off will be much larger fish.

When you say the rocks do you mean the jetties? I’ve heard of catching kings close later in the year but not this early.

lil rods, where did you find the menhaden, the ones I have found lately have only been 3" or so not the good sized ones for slow trolling

ALL MANHADEN WERE BETWEEN 3 AND 7 INCHES U JUST HAD TO PICK THROUGH THEM A LIL BIT AND I STILL THINK IT IS TO EARLY TO CATCH THE BIG ONE THAT CLOSE WE TROLLED FOR ATLEATS AN HOUR SATURDAY IN 40 FOTT ON THE TIDE LINE AND DID NOTHING BUT SHARKS. BIRDS AND BAIT WAS EVERYWHERE TOO MAYBEE SHOULD HAVE SPENT MORE TIME IN 60 FT AND COULD HAVE PULLED A NICE ONE BUT THE WATER TEMP IN 60 WAS ONLY 68-69 SO WE DECIDED TO HEAD ON OUT. LOOKS LIKE THE WEATHER MIGHT COOPERATE WITH US ON SUNDAY TO GET BACK OUT THERE ANY BODY WANNA GO AND FOLLOW US ALWAYS COVER MORE GROUND WITH 2 BOATS.
